Recognition Statement

Out of respect for the Indigenous peoples of Manitoba, FRCDN recognizes we are on Treaty 1 land, the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, known as the First Nations Territory, as well as the Homeland of the Metis Nation. FRCDN supports community by continuing to build relationships based on mutual recognition, respect, and shared responsibility for maintaining relationships into the future.

To celebrate the diversity of our community, FRCDN incorporates cultural components into our curriculum that reflect the children in our programs to ensure the children are being provided positive experiences and opportunities to share their cultures and to learn about the cultures of others.

Behaviour Management Policy

A licensee shall not permit, practice, or inflict any form of physical punishment or verbal or emotional abuse upon, or denial of any physical necessities to, any child in attendance at the childcare centre.

FRCDN believes in offering an environment which celebrates diversity. All areas of the centre; both indoor and outdoor environments are set up to meet the needs of all children no matter their capabilities, within the limits of the centre.

We use positive guidance and redirection techniques throughout the day as needed. Staff role model positive behaviour and are there to assist the children to problem-solve.

All materials and equipment are age-appropriate and offer a wide variety of manipulatives to meet the different levels of development, allowing all children to naturally explore and challenge themselves within the environment.

Staff will:

  • take a positive approach by looking for, and asking child/ren “How can I help you?”
  • give each child the opportunity to share their story
  • help children express their feelings
  • allow children to problem solve and come up with solutions independently

Expectations for behaviour are based on age and development for each individual child.

Protocol for ongoing behaviour concerns:

  • Staff observe and document behaviour
  • Behaviour charts completed
  • Incident reports completed and signed
  • Parents are notified and strategies are developed
  • Outside professionals contacted
  • Centre will seek additional support through Early Learning and Child Care

In the instance of persistent poor behaviour, or the unwillingness of the parent/guardian to work with the centre, the parent/guardian will be spoken to. The parent/guardian will be given three opportunities to work towards improving the child’s behaviour in partnership with the centre. If the child’s behaviour persists and all the above efforts have been followed, then parent/guardian and child will be asked to leave the centre.

The child may be asked to leave the centre immediately when the safety of the other children or staff becomes a concern.

Illness

Children should remain in the comfort of family and friends if they are too ill to participate in all aspects of the program.  If the child is unable to participate in the daily routine, including outdoor play, then they are not well enough to attend childcare.

If a child becomes ill during the day, or if their illness is such that they display lethargic or erratic behaviour, we feel that it is in the child’s best interest for the parent to be contacted so that alternate arrangements can be made for the care of their child.

We ask that you call the childcare centre if your child will be away due to illness.

In the case of a communicable disease, after receiving confirmation from your family doctor, notify the centre so a note may be posted informing other families.

Parents are requested to keep their children at home for 24 hours following the onset of illness to ensure they are returning to childcare in good health.

  • Colds/Elevated Temperature: if your child develops a fever during childcare hours, we will contact the parent or guardian to pick up the child.
  • Diarrhea: if your child has diarrhea, please do not bring him/her to childcare. If your child has two incidents of watery stools during their day, you will be contacted and asked to pick your child up.
  • Ear Infection:  after a child has been seen by a physician and has been on medication for twenty-four hours, he/she may return to childcare.
  • Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis): children with this condition must be excluded from the childcare centre for at least twenty-four hours after being prescribed treatment.
  • Skin Rash:  diagnosis by a physician is required.
  • Vomiting: please do not bring your child to childcare if he/she has vomited during the night or upon awakening in the morning. If your child has a vomiting episode during childcare hours, parent/guardian will be contacted to pick him/her up.
  • Strep Throat: children with this illness must be excluded from contact with other children until he/she has been on antibiotics for at least twenty-four hours as the spread of this disease is airborne from person to person.

Should your child require a pick-up, the staff at the childcare centre will keep your child comfortable until you are able to arrive.

Administration of Medication

Medication will be administered by a staff provided that the proper “Medication Release Form” is filled out and signed by the parent (forms available through staff).  The medicine must be in its original container as obtained from the pharmacy indicating the type of medication, dosage, and doctor’s information.

Please ensure that any and all medication is HANDED DIRECTLY TO A STAFF MEMBER and not left in the child’s bag.

Research, Photography, Videotaping Policies

Every licensee shall obtain written permission from the parent/guardian of a child before any Research Project, photography, or videotaping is carried out by any person with respect to that child in the Licensee’s Center.
